About the black widow

Black widows are reclusive spiders that rarely bite humans — only when pressed against skin. The female is the medically significant one: 8–13 mm, glossy black, with the unmistakable red hourglass mark on her underside. Their venom is neurotoxic and bites cause severe pain, cramping, and sweating; seek medical care promptly. They prefer undisturbed dark spaces: wood piles, sheds, garages, outdoor furniture corners, under porch steps.
