Many Triangle homes are built over vented crawl spaces. In humid weather, moisture from the soil and outside air can raise humidity under the house, which can encourage fungal growth, wood-destroying insects and other pests. Encapsulation separates the crawl space from the ground and outside air, and a dehumidifier helps control humidity.
Encapsulation is a moisture-management system. It does not eliminate mold or guarantee a specific result on its own; it reduces the moisture that allows problems to develop. Vapor barrier or full encapsulation?
A ground vapor barrier covers the soil to reduce the moisture it releases. Full encapsulation goes further: ground and wall liners, wrapped piers, sealed seams, sealed vents and access door, and usually a dehumidifier. After inspecting, we explain which approach fits your crawl space and why. The U.S. Department of Energy’s Building America guidance describes why separating the soil from the crawl space matters.
Water problems need to be addressed separately
If water is pooling in the crawl space because of grading, gutters or drainage, that must be corrected before or alongside encapsulation. Castle does not install French drains, sump pumps or drainage systems, and we will tell you if we see a water problem that needs another contractor.
Why a pest control company does crawl-space work
Moisture under a house attracts termites, wood-boring beetles, cockroaches, camel crickets and other pests. As a licensed pest control company, we look at the crawl space from both sides: the moisture conditions and the pests they invite. Encapsulation work can be combined with termite inspection and rodent exclusion where needed.

Frequently asked questions
Will encapsulation eliminate mold?
Encapsulation manages moisture; it does not by itself eliminate mold. Existing growth is treated or remediated as part of the scope.
Will it lower my energy bills?
Some homeowners notice a difference, but we do not guarantee energy savings.
Do you install sump pumps or French drains?
No. If your crawl space has a water-intrusion problem, we will tell you so it can be addressed by the right contractor.
What warranty comes with encapsulation?
Any warranty is described in your written agreement. Ask us to explain it before you decide.
