Eastern subterranean termites are the termites most North Carolina homeowners encounter. They live in the soil and can reach the wood in a home through mud tubes along foundations and piers. Castle Exterminators provides visual termite inspections and liquid termite treatments, and treats wood-boring beetles.
Our inspections are visual. A licensed technician examines the accessible areas of your home for evidence of termites and the conditions that attract them. Standard termite inspections are free. A formal WDIR (Wood-Destroying Insect Information Report), the official North Carolina report often requested during a home sale, is a separate, paid service.
Every home is different, so we do not quote termite work without inspecting first. You get a written estimate describing the treatment method, the areas treated, and any monitoring or warranty that comes with that specific treatment.

Termite treatment methods we use
Trench and treat. Soil along the foundation is trenched and treated with a liquid termiticide, according to the product label.
Drill and inject. Where soil is covered by concrete — a slab, porch, patio or garage floor — we drill and inject the termiticide into the soil below.
Whole-structure or localized treatment. Depending on what the inspection finds, the treatment may cover the whole structure or a specific area. Spot treatment is not right for every home; we will explain why we recommend one or the other.
Borate treatment. Borate products are applied to wood surfaces, most often in crawl spaces, according to the label.
Your estimate names the method, the areas to be treated and what, if any, monitoring or warranty comes with it.
Warranties and annual inspections
Not every termite job comes with the same terms. Retreatment coverage, monitoring, annual inspections and transferable warranties are available with selected treatments, and only as described in your written agreement. Ask us to explain the terms of any treatment before you decide.
New-construction termite pretreatment
We provide termite pretreatment for residential and commercial new construction. Pretreatment is applied to the soil during construction, before the slab or foundation is finished, so it must be coordinated with the builder’s schedule. Builders and owners can call to discuss timing and documentation for their project.
Wood-boring beetles: powderpost, old house borer and furniture beetles
Some beetles lay eggs in wood, and their larvae tunnel inside it before emerging through small, round exit holes, often leaving fine, powdery frass. Castle treats powderpost beetles, old house borers and furniture beetles. We inspect to confirm that the activity is current, because old exit holes can remain long after beetles have gone, and then recommend treatment, such as borate, where it fits. Swarmers: termites or ants?
Winged termites and winged ants can look alike. Termites have straight antennae, a thick waist and wings of equal length; ants have elbowed antennae, a pinched waist and unequal wings. If you find winged insects indoors, save a few in a sealed bag or take a clear photo, and call us. NC State Extension has practical guidance on preventing termite problems in existing homes.

Frequently asked questions
Is a termite inspection free?
Yes, our standard visual termite inspection is free. A formal WDIR report for a real-estate transaction is a separate, paid service. See WDIR inspections.
Do you use termite bait stations?
No. Castle provides liquid termite treatments (trench-and-treat and drill-and-inject), borate treatment, and localized or whole-structure treatment. We do not install bait systems.
Does every treatment come with a warranty?
No. Retreatment coverage, monitoring and transferable warranties are available on selected treatments only. Your written agreement states exactly what applies.
How do you inspect?
