A WDIR — Wood-Destroying Insect Information Report — is the official North Carolina form used to report visible evidence of wood-destroying insects. It is often requested when a home is bought, sold or refinanced. Castle Exterminators prepares WDIRs under NC Structural Pest Control License #1979PW.

A formal WDIR is a paid service. It is separate from our free standard pest and termite inspections. Please ask for current pricing and availability when you book, and tell us your closing date.

What the WDIR covers

  • A visual inspection of the readily accessible areas of the structure
  • Visible evidence of wood-destroying insects, such as subterranean termites and wood-boring beetles
  • Visible evidence of conditions conducive to wood-destroying insects
  • Areas that could not be inspected, and why
  • The completed official North Carolina WDIR form

Not included, or quoted separately

  • A WDIR is not a structural inspection or an estimate of damage or repair cost.
  • It is not a guarantee that no insects or damage are present in hidden or inaccessible areas.
  • Treatment, if recommended, is quoted separately. See termite treatment.

Exact coverage, visit frequency and any guarantee depend on your written service agreement.

Who needs a WDIR?

Requirements vary. Some lenders and loan programs ask for a WDIR; others do not, and some buyers request one for their own information. We do not claim every lender requires one. Please confirm with your lender, real-estate agent or closing attorney which report is needed and by when.

What the report can and cannot tell you

The NC Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services explains that the WDIR reports what is visible in accessible areas at the time of inspection. It is not a structural damage assessment and does not warrant that insects are absent. Read the NCDA&CS homeowner guide to the WDIR for the full scope and limitations.

If the report finds activity

If we find evidence of termites or wood-boring beetles, we explain what we saw. Treatment options are described on our termite inspection and treatment page, and any treatment is quoted separately in writing. Moisture problems in a crawl space may be addressed with moisture control or encapsulation.

When to book a WDIR

  • You are under contract to buy or sell a home and a WDIR has been requested
  • Your lender, agent or closing attorney has asked for the official NC form
  • You want a documented record of visible wood-destroying insect evidence

How Castle Exterminators handles it

  1. Book with your deadline

Tell us the property address, access details and your closing date.

  2. Visual inspection

A licensed technician inspects the readily accessible areas of the structure.

  3. Official report

We complete the North Carolina WDIR form with our findings.

  4. Next steps

If treatment is recommended, we explain the options and provide a separate written estimate.

We use EPA-registered products applied according to label directions. Your technician gives product-specific preparation and re-entry instructions when a treatment calls for them.
