German Cockroach
Blattella germanica
About the german cockroach
German cockroaches are the most common — and most problematic — indoor cockroach in North Carolina. A single female can produce thousands of offspring in a year, and infestations escalate fast. They trigger asthma and allergy attacks, spread salmonella and E. coli, and contaminate food. They prefer warm, humid spaces near food: kitchens, bathrooms, behind appliances. DIY sprays usually make infestations worse by scattering the population. Professional gel baits and IGRs are the proven solution.
Quick ID
13–16 mm light brown body with two dark parallel stripes behind the head.
In the Triangle
Extremely common across the Triangle in apartments, rentals, restaurants, and any home with consistent humidity issues.
