Smokybrown Cockroach
Periplaneta fuliginosa
About the smokybrown cockroach
Smokybrown cockroaches are large, glossy mahogany-brown roaches that thrive in the humid southern US. Unlike German roaches, they prefer to live outdoors — in gutters, tree holes, mulch, attic vents — and fly into homes attracted to lights at night, often in large numbers. They contribute to indoor allergens and can mechanically transmit pathogens. Effective control combines gutter cleaning, reduced outdoor lighting, perimeter treatments, and sealing entry points.
