Little Black Ant
Monomorium minimum
About the little black ant
Little black ants are among the smallest household ants you'll encounter — a tiny, shiny jet-black ant that forms long foraging trails between outdoor nests and indoor food sources. They're opportunistic omnivores: sugar, grease, meat, dead insects — anything available. Colonies have multiple queens, which makes them resilient and quick to re-establish if you only spray the workers you see. They typically nest in rotting wood, brickwork, masonry voids, wall cavities, and under stones.
