House Cricket
Acheta domesticus
About the house cricket
House crickets are the light yellow-brown crickets that get inside during cooler weather and keep you up at night with rhythmic chirping (males rubbing their forewings together to attract females). They're attracted to warmth — furnaces, water heaters, appliances — and they can chew wool, cotton, silk, paper, and plant matter. Sealing cracks and crevices, reducing basement and crawl space humidity, and placing sticky traps near entry points usually solves the problem.
