Millipede
Diplopoda class
About the millipede
Millipedes are the dark brown segmented arthropods that curl into a spiral when disturbed. They're slow-moving detritivores that eat decaying plant matter — completely harmless to humans, though they can secrete a mild skin irritant if handled directly. After heavy rain they sometimes migrate indoors in surprising numbers. The fix is reducing mulch and leaf litter against your foundation, sealing exterior cracks, and running a dehumidifier in basements.
Quick ID
