Before your inspection
- What we look at
- Affected attic, crawl-space and wall areas, and the condition of insulation.
- How to prepare
- Keep attic and crawl-space access clear and avoid disturbing droppings.
- Cost & next steps
- Free inspection, followed by a written estimate. We explain the scope before you approve any work.
Scheduling: Monday–Friday, 8am–5pm Eastern. Same-day service may be available, depending on the schedule and your location.
When rodent activity has been controlled, droppings, urine and nesting material are often left behind in attics, crawl spaces and wall cavities. Castle Exterminators provides rodent dropping cleanup, disinfection, odor treatment, and removal and replacement of contaminated insulation.
Cleanup is a separately scoped service. We inspect the affected areas, explain what needs to be cleaned or removed, and give you a written estimate. We recommend completing rodent control and exclusion first, so the cleaned area is not re-contaminated.
What this service includes
- Rodent dropping cleanup
- Disinfection of affected surfaces
- Odor treatment
- Removal of contaminated insulation
- Insulation replacement
Not included, or quoted separately
- Structural, electrical or HVAC repairs
- Wildlife removal
Exact coverage, visit frequency and any guarantee depend on your written service agreement.
Why not just vacuum it up?
Sweeping or vacuuming dry rodent droppings can stir particles into the air. The CDC recommends a careful wet-cleaning method with protective equipment. See the CDC’s hantavirus prevention guidance for how droppings and nesting material should be handled.
When insulation needs replacing
Insulation that is heavily soiled, compressed by nesting or saturated with urine usually cannot be cleaned effectively. After inspection, we explain which areas we recommend removing and replacing, and which can be cleaned in place.
Signs you may need this service
- Droppings or nesting material in the attic or crawl space
- Persistent odors after rodent activity has stopped
- Insulation that is flattened, tunneled or stained
How Castle Exterminators handles it
-
Confirm control is in place
Cleanup follows rodent control and, ideally, exclusion.
-
Inspect and scope
We assess the affected areas and the condition of insulation.
-
Written estimate
Cleanup, disinfection, odor treatment and insulation work are itemized.
-
Clean and restore
We complete the agreed work and explain what was done.
We use EPA-registered products applied according to label directions. Your technician gives product-specific preparation and re-entry instructions when a treatment calls for them.
Frequently asked questions
Is cleanup included in rodent control?
No. Cleanup and insulation work are separately inspected, scoped and quoted.
Do I need to replace all my insulation?
Not always. We will tell you which areas need removal and replacement and which can be cleaned.
Should I clean up droppings myself?
If you do, follow the CDC’s guidance: do not sweep or vacuum dry droppings, and use protective equipment.
